Little Cinema Halloween 2014 – Film Links

Little Cinema Halloween 2014 and the links to some of the 11 fantastic themed short films that were screened on the night. A lot of these films were made specifically for the event!Little-Cinema-Halloween-2014-2-lineup1. First up last night we had the atmospheric Nyctophobia, submitted by Colin Buckley, which played on people’s sometimes irrational fear of the dark.

2. Our second film was “Shallow Depths”, made by Christian Craughwell, which tells the spooky story of a writers investigations into the unexplained deaths of people at sea decades previously.

3. Our third film was the very funny “Quest For Sugar”, submitted by Kieran Griffin which was a sideways take on what potentially happens when you swat a fly!

4. Our fourth film was Hugh Sweeneys recording of his recent exploring or a haunted house in Galway City! Very spooky indeed!

9. Stephen Ward’s “Despair and Hopelessness”, a very short clip with a proper Blair Witch feel to it, executed perfectly by Stephen.

10. Our penultimate short of the night was Meeting Mr Jackson, submitted by Megan Newport on behalf of GMIT Film Making Society .It was filmed within an afternoon and the guys did a fantastic job on it!

11. We finished the night with the fantastic “Poke” by Chris Tierney from chrisdidthis.com, his first venture into film making with a narrative rather than documentary pieces, and it came out fantastic, getting a great response from the crowd. Excellent work by everyone involved in it!

Best of Fest with Chris O’Dowd Highlights

Hollywood star and proud West of Ireland man, Chris O’Dowd, paid a special visit to Little Cinema this weekend, to attend our Best of the Fest Screening, which was a selection of short films and sketches that featured during the first ever Little Cinema Festival at the end of September.

Held in Nun’s Island theatre and supported by Castle Print, it was a hugely successful sold-out night which included an exclusive Q&A with Chris after the screening! He talked candidly about his acting career, his work on Moone Boy, UFOs in Boyle and parenting advice from Bill Murray along with lots more hilarious stories that had the crowd in hysterics! We filmed the Q&A and will be posting it here soon!

Chris first heard about the Little Cinema in 2013, when we applied for funds through the Arthur Guinness Projects and while we didn’t manage to secure funding through it, Chris was so enthusiastic about the project that he provided some of his own money to the Little Cinema to buy film-making equipment!

During the Q&A Chris also made the exciting announcement that he will again be making a donation to the Little Cinema this year, which took us by complete surprise and really showed his commitment to helping to develop grass roots film-making in Ireland, saying that there was “no reason why Galway can’t be the short film capital of the world!”

He was very impressed with all the films screened and gave lots of his time to have his photo taken and a chat with each film-maker and members of the audience. He was a complete gentleman and could not have done more for us. At the end of the night, we presented Chris with a custom made Little Cinema hoodie which he seemed very touched by and which he proudly wore for the rest of the night and to the after party!

Because of something in the chemistry of the Little Cinema as a collective, great things keep happening. We are so proud of all the film makers who were just fantastic on the night. They weren’t just representing the Little Cinema, but Galway and Ireland and Irish film-making in general as well! The whole night was out of this world, thank you to everyone who helped make it possible!

We put the tickets on sale on Sunday night and they sold out within less than a day!

We can’t wait to meet the man himself either and show him the wonderful work that the film-makers of Little Cinema have been doing! The line-up is truly fantastic:line-up-chris-odowd-little-cinema-festival-best-of-fest

Just a heads up, the venue is at it’s absolute maximum capacity and sadly, there will be NO EXTRA TICKETS ON THE DOOR.

If you were lucky enough to have got tickets to the screening this weekend, and want to ask a question in the Q&A, check out Jarlath Regan‘s An Irishman Abroad podcast recorded with Chris last year for some inspiration!

Check it out on iTunes here and SoundCloud here.

We will be announcing the line-up this evening, stay tuned.
