Little Cinema and Galway City of Film are delighted to announce the judging panel for the 48 Hour Challenge taking place from 16th to 18th June!
10 teams of filmmakers are taking part in the 48 Hour Challenge and Galway’s Town Hall Theatre will host a special FREE screening of all completed films at 6.30pm on Sunday 18th June.
The panel of judges including, Eibh Collins, Ristéard Ó Domhnaill, Graham Cantwell, and Tracy Geraghty, will choose a winning film and award a cash prize of €500!
The winning film will also be included to screen in the Way Out West section of the this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.

Making a film is enough of an undertaking in itself, but to try and shoot and edit it within just 48 hours is an incredible challenge!
The screening starts at 7pm SHARP! Doors for the theatre open at 6:30pm and pre-booked tickets are valid until 6:45pm, after that point it is open to the public.

Howdy folks, welcome to another Little Cinema recap! As ever, May was a veritable feast of high quality short films, made locally with passion and skill by the talented filmmakers of Galway and further afield! We had music videos, documentaries, comedy sketches, art-pieces and more! On top of all that, there was a full house audience there to support these filmmakers, so huge props to those who showed up to be part of another great month at Little Cinema. That’s it for another month! Bear in mind that June is gonna be a bumper Little Cinema month, with the 48 Hour Challenge as well as our regular screening at the end of the month! We’re very excited to see what people can create in the 48 Hour Challenge, and we have some sweet music videos lined up for the end of the month also, so make sure to get to those screenings!
Every year at Little Cinema, we put on a few special screenings aside from our regular programming. Among them, the One Take Film Challenge stands out as perhaps the most interesting. As a collaboration with the amazing Galway Theatre Festival, we challenge filmmakers to work within the same rules as live theatre, as in, their film must be made in just one take, with the option to start over disallowed! Each year, we get some amazing entries, and we’re consistently amazed at how people rise to the challenge. This year was no different, and we were lucky to screen a fantastic, varied line-up of short films to a packed house at the Roisin Dubh last week. Here’s a reminder of the films we screened.

We have huge news! We are delighted to be collaborating with Galway Film Centre and Galway City of Film to hold a 48 Hour Film-making Challenge this June 15th to 18th!
It is something that we have wanted to do for a few years and thanks to the great support of the Galway Film Centre we are now able to make it happen!
Film-makers will have to write, shoot and edit their films in just 48 hours, which is a real test of their wits, ingenuity and teamwork! It’s €80 per team to enter and there will be 10 teams taking part with 4-8 official team members each.
The 48 Hour challenge will launch on Thursday 15th June in the Cornstore at the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture offices, where film-making teams will meet and register for the weekend. Film-making for all registered teams will commence on Friday 16th June at 11am and finish at 11am on Sunday 18th.
A special FREE screening will be held at Town Hall Theatre for all completed films on the evening of Sunday 18th June where a panel of film judges will choose a winning film and award a cash prize of €500! The free tickets to the screening will be available to book through our website closer to the date.
